with the fall of ancient kingdoms of srilanka, the architecture of the island took a new path from its colonial powers from Protugese, Dutch and British colonization. from administrative buildings to the land marks and their residencies thorough the island. out of many talented young and upcoming architect of the island, one man has had the single greatest impact of architect of the independent srilanka. Geoffrey Bawa (1919-2003) known as father of Srilankan Architect. srilankan born multi ethnic colonial heritage as his paternal lineage of Arab & British to his maternal lineage of Dutch burger & Sinhalese. the 14-day architectural tour of srilanka will take you to places he lived in, designed and drew inspiration from and will stay in properties designed by him. we have included all the important cities of the island where the story of srilankan architect begins.

Day 1:

arrival in srilanka on arrival you will be met by our chaffeuer /guide and will take you to Negombo (20 min drive). overnight stay at jetwing blue. the hotel is originally designed by Bawa and since renovated in 2004.

Day 2:

after breakfast visit sigiriya (approximately 5 hrs drive). On the way to the hotel you will visit the beautiful dambulla cave temple, which is a UNESCO world heritage site.it is the largest cave monastery in which a history going back to the first century BC.they are laid out as a maze of caves ,of which a handful is well worth a sighting. overnight stay in hotel kandalama.this hotel is built in to a rock and surrounded by lush jungle overlooking ancient tank (Kandalama) .when Bawa designed this hotel he said that one day it would peer out from under a canopy of lush vegetation ,which exactly how the hotel looks today.

Day 3:

this morning visit sigiriya rock fortress –a UNESCO world heritage site. which is named to be the 8th wonders of the world, the 5th century rock fortress was built by during the king kasayapa. the huge lion that built at the entrance to the palace summit gained the name as Lion rock.

After sigirya visit Polonnaruwa, the second most ancient of srilanka’s kingdoms, after the destruction of Anuradhpura in 993, which comprises monuments built by cholas and the monument ruins of the fabulous garden city built by parakramabahu 1 in the 12th century.

In the evening arrive kandlama for the overnight stay.

Day 4:

After breakfast leave to kandy. on route to kandy visit a spice garden to learn about srilankan spices. Kandy is the country’s religious and cultural centre. situated in the in the midst of low hills.

Spend the day exploring city of kandy, the peradeniya botanical garden, temple of the tooth relic and also enjoy an evening with srilankan cultural dance show.

Day 5:

this morning visit nuwaraeliya. The favourite holiday retreat of old English planters and English visitors to the island during British colonial era.

you will stay in a converted tea factory in to a hotel. Here you will also have chance to pluck your own tea at their own tea plantation.

without no alterations or additions have been made to original exterior the architect nihal bodhinayake has transformed this abandoned tea factory in 1992 to a world class hotel, where the windows and woodwork are entirely original as designed by British engineers.

Day 6:

this morning leaves nuwaraeliya to the coast Tangalle. en route admire srilanka’s finest views (approximately 6 hours’ drive). rest of the day is at leisure and overnight stay at last house, which is the last property built by Geoffrey Bawa.

Day 7:

Visit Fitzherbert house (only about 30 min drive) in dickwella and spend the rest of the day at leisure. overnight stay in Tangalle at Last House.


Day 8:

Tangalle to Galle, visit Galle fort another UNESCO site which will clearly show the rich heritage derived from the colonial influence. the centre piece Dutch fort, around the city is built. Overnight stay in club Villa re-designed by Bawa in 1980.

Day 9:

Spend the morning at lesure and visit Geoffrey Bawa’s country residence for afternoon tea. Lunuganga where the nature has been incorporated in the very design of the house.

Overnight stay at Club Villa.



Day 10:

Leave bentota to Colombo the commercial capital of srilanka. enjoy the rest of the day with some sightseeing and shopping in Colombo.

Day 11:

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
