DAY 1

Upon on arrival to Sri Lanka you will be travelling to Sigirya .(average journey time to Sigirya from Colombo Airport is about 4 hours ).on your way you will be visiting the elephant orphanage.

Pinnawala is a remote village by kegalle on your way to the Sigiriya . an area with lush coconut plantations  .There are lot of mahout living in the surrounding villages of Kegalle.
finding the mahout to work in the Orphanage wasn’t much of a problem therefore. elephant orphanage was set up as far as 1975 to care for abandoned and lost baby elephants in the wild. Nowadays you can also witness even the injured elephants being cared for. With rapid increase in development sector from 70s in Sri lanka , the imminent loss of forest habitat cause the ongoing Elephant Human conflict, which resulted finding many injured elephants and abandoned baby elephants in the wild.

Today the entire herd at pinnawala consists hundreds of elephants including the baby elephants. There have being lot of births given at the orphanage up to date.

DAY 2

Next day after breakfast you will be leaving to Anuradhapura

Auradhapura ,one of the world richest archaeological sites dating back to year 245 BC ,known as garden of Dagobas (stupas) .the Old city consist of many temples,ruins of palaces ,ancient pools which many of them still serve as holy places of worship. World oldest documented tree ,Sri Maha bodhi. a branch where Buddha attained enlightenment was planted back in 288 BC here in Anuradhapaura.
This regarded as the most sacred relics among the Buddhists around the world.
the sacred Fig tree is the the oldest living human-planted tree in the world with a known planting date.

Current day Aunradhapura city which is more like a village town can be easily covered by a bike . It is a small town with a relaxed pace . Regular religious ceremonies throughout the year give the city a vibrancy.

Nearby mihintale is a mountain peak . Which is believed to be the place where Buddhism was first introduced to the island by a Buddhist monk to the king of sri lanka.

Ancient Ruins of of hospital and medical bath can be seen at the foot of the Mihintale rock. The view of the surrounding sleepy village and the temple complex on top of the peak will add more memories to your journey.

DAY 3

This morning you will be visiting the rock citadel of Sigirya with an evening visit to the medieval era polonnaruwa city .

Sigiriya which is now being considered as 8th wonder of the world by locals. the rock citadel sigiriya lies in between the two small towns of Dambulla and habarana. This is perhaps the most visited sightseeing by both locals and foreign tourists.

The rock plateau is rising above surrounding jungles .the ruins of the old palace and bathing ponds on top of the rock , can be reached by a stair case leading through a large paw of a stone lion .

The fortress complex also surrounded by pleasure garden with ponds ,moat and fountains .

It is evident that the sigirya is being used as monastery around 3rd century BC. way before the king kasyapa made this place as his hiding palace. Even after the death of short lived king the complex and the surroundings has been used by monks until 14thcentury.

Western walls of the rock has been covered by paintings (frescos) .there are around 18 surviving frescos toady.

Polonnaruwa ,With enormous number of temples ,shrines ,stupas and statues the inner city of Polonnaruwa worth a visit. Polonnaruwa has been a popular ruling kingdom for many kings in sri lanka. The ancient glory of old city on its hay days pretty evident in this museum like ambient.
The four Buddha statues of nearby Galviharaya temple is not to be missed ,these statues have been carved in to the large granite rock ,which shows the skills of ancient sinhalese carvings.

The drive to the polonnaruwa passing through villages and lakes in dry zone of central province will make your day.

DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel you will be visiting the rock temple of dambulla in the morning . This day you will be driving up to the central hills . Kandy the last kingdom of Sinhalese kings .

On your way to Kandy you will have a stopover at a spice garden in matale .

There will be a visit to the temple of tooth relic of Buddha and you will also have chance to witness a traditional Kandayan dance in

Dambulla,The rock cave temples of Dambulla is very famous for its its colorful Buddha statues and murals of the interior. The paintings of dambulla belongs to many periods of the ancient sri lanka.

The nearby city centre is of more commercially important since its serve as a major distribution centre of vegetables and fruits (wholesale market).

Matale ,Sri lanka is very famous for its spices ,of course you will get to know the amount of spices and variteis sri lankan use in their day to day cooking . Most of them are actually medicinal herbs and plants which use in sri lankan cooking as well as in eastern medicines , the most popular being the use of these herbs and plant in sri lankan traditional Ayurvedic treatments.

Its good stopover in Matale ,the region with ideal climate and soil to many of these plants and herbs .there are hundreds of plantations along the dambulla -kandy road where many spices like vanilla ,cocoa,cardamom are in abundance.

Kandy ,the last kingdom of sinhalese kings before it was fallen in to the hands of English rulers in 1815. the central highland city is the place to the countries most precious and important temple shrine ,where the tooth relic of Lord gauthama Buddha is being held .
In the month of August visitors around the world gather to this city to witness the one of the world oldest and largest folk pageant -kandy perehera.which is being held in respect of the relic of buaddaha.
hundred of colourfully dressed elephants ,traditional dancers and drummers and torch bearers can be seen at this world famous events.

This unesco protected world heritage kandy city also very famous for its colourful bazaar and streets filled with eateries and fancy shops. This city is relatively cooler and wetter than the rest of the island.

End your day with a tour to the folk dancing centre where you will be entertained by the traditional and professional dancers who carry out their traditional dancing practices over generations.

DAY 5

This morning you will be visiting the Royal botanical garden in Kandy and then proceed further up hill to nuwaraeliya or haputale ,passing through the tea plantations and beautiful waterfalls.there will be a visit to a tea factory to witness the tea making process.

Royal botanical garden.Tour of kandy wouldn’t be completed without a walk in the royal park ,by the bank of mahaweli river .the royal botanical garden of kandy peradeniya. The total area of the garden is about 147 acres and famous for its collection of orchids.
The garden was originally used by kandyan kings before it was subsequently transformed by English rulers which they first used for coffee and cinnamon plantation.

Nuwaraeliya ,with its misty mountains ,waterfalls and tea plantations has added an extra character to the tropical sri lankan scenery. The hills which rise 200ft above sea level was a famous holiday escape for the English and Scottish pioneers of the sri lankan tea industry. Which is often been referred as Little England ,still some of these English characteristics evident today with the old Victorian style post office and the English Tudor style bungalows.
Nuwaraeliya is well abundance with pretty gardens,lake and a golf field.

DAY 6

This day you will be driving down the hills to tissamaharama. The dry zone where you will spend your evening in a safari at yala national park.

Yala national safari park .The countries second biggest national park ,is a strict nature reserve .only two block out of 5 blocks are open for public, which covers an area of more than 130,000 hectares of land of light forests ,scrubs ,lagoons and tanks. Yala is famous for its world biggest concentration of leopards . During the months of February to July the scarcity of the water level bring animals to the more open areas of the park . The park itself bordering the south east of the country to the beautiful Indian Ocean. Yala gets most of its rainfall from the north east monsoon during the months of September to December . Yala national park has semi -arid environment ,which is usually hotter despite its greenish look.

DAY 7

After breakfast you will be driving further to the city of Colombo.

On your way to Colombo you will be also visiting the Dutch fort in Galle.
Galle,The old port city lies on the southern beaches of Sri Lanka is best to be explored on foot. UNESCO world heritage site which dates back to the colonial Dutch period blessed with colonial Dutch buildings ,old mosques and churches . The inner city is covered with its old rampart and the city faces the sea from three sides .a walk through in its rambling lanes filled with tiny boutiques and cafes are not second to the restored hotels and mansions owned by both locals and foreign artists ,designers ,writers to photographers .
Still up to date the inner city serves as a working city with its schools ,administrative offices ,courts and local business .you will be surely seduce by the ambience of the city.

Colombo ,an excellent city to finish off your Sri Lankan adventure .the commercial capital of Sri Lanka is one of the fastest growing cities in the world .at one time it was known as the garden city of the east , the old colonial buildings and the history is slightly hiding among the ever rising sky scrapers of the city . The fort and the Galle road along the Galle face green covered with landmarks from the by gone British era ,the busy and chaotic petha bazar area , adding some drama to this metropolitan city.

DAY 8

On your last day of the tour our driver will transfer you back to the airport according to your flight schedule . Or you can extend your holiday  With a beach stay in the island.

if you are extending your holiday,your airport transfer is not included at the end of your holiday ,however you can book this service at any time with us.

We do also can arrange an extended beach stay in nearby Maldive island .(flight time is les than an hour ).

 

this tour is planned assuming that your first  day of arrival will be either with morning or afternoon flight (up to 16:00 pm ).

if you are arriving in a later flight ,we may transfer you to the hotel near Airport which would be a extra night before we start your tour next day morning .
